Physical stress can be classified into two categories: macro-traumas and micro-traumas.

Macro-traumas are the overt accidents that we experience in our lives that cause broken bones, cuts and bruises, etc to the minor traumas of slipping on the wet grass or snow, or being jarred unexpectedly.

Children especially experience many traumas. The first major physical stress is the birth process itself. Think about the number of times that a child falls learning how to walk, riding a bike, out of a chair or out of a tree. Every one of these minor traumas adds up.

Think of all the times that you rode on a bumpy road or on choppy waters at sea, or the number of times that you unexpectedly stepped off of a curb or step and your body was jarred. These are all examples of minor macro-traumas to your body.

Micro-traumas result from minor physical stresses to the body. This is like working in the same position every day. Like someone who sits at a desk looking down all day long or the person who works in a factory doing the same movements day in day out. Micro-trauma is also related to bad posture or improper sitting positions, like slouching on the couch or at school, etc.
